Everyday scene in Vietnam

I have had the opportunity to Visit Vietnam twice.

It is a wonderful place, beautiful with very friendly people. My first visit was with Pacific Holidays on a group bus tour. WE visited Hanoi, Took a boat tour in Halong Bay. We stopped there and walked through this beautiful cave. On to Hoi Ann a great beach town right on the South China Sea. The town is known for its' silk lanterns. We all got to make our own, lots of fun! Get around town by tuk tuk a scooter front  with seating in back. they are very efficient!

Then to Hue the site of the infamous battle in the Vietnam  War....of course over there it is called the American War!. It was very moving.

Then to Saigon or Ho Chi Min City. There was a tour of the city and the historical sites. and a day at the famous Chu Chi Tunnels. That was one of my favorite days.  We explored the war museum. It was extremely interesting! We tasted traditional dishes and of course went to a Pho Restaurant.

It is easy to get around in Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City by walking, or by pedicabs.

On that trip some of us continued on to Cambodia ending at a fabulous visit to Ankor Wat ...a must see..

My last trip was a river cruise with AMA Waterways. Prior to boarding my friend and I did a week on our own in Vietnam. We started in Hanoi and stayed in a small local hotel in the Old City, plain but comfortable. We walked everywhere saw a market set up next to the train tracks..they have to pull everything in very quickly when the train comes through, It was amazing. we had a drink at the famous Metropolitan Hotel. Jayne Fonda stayed there.

We overnighted on a train to Hoi Ann. We both had clothes made there for us in a day! Beautiful workmanship.

We flew to Saigon and stayed at the Saigon Hotel again plain but comfortable.

We walked so much there my legs were very stiff.

The ship is fantastic. All teak wood throughout. Marvelous food and service. excellent cabins, a pool on the outside deck. The Makong is so interesting. We made a number of stops before our disembarkation and bus to Siem Reap.

We docked in Phnom Penh overnight. There was a city tour during the day . The Palace was closed.Interesting that it was closed the first time I was there also. A passenger on board that night invited a bunch of people to go out on the town, first we declined but then we went. We took TukTuks back and forth from the ship. We went to this rooftop bar in the middle of the city and had a great time. What a view.

Overall AMA is wonderful they have a choice of excursions included every day. The ship  is very intimate and all cabins have balconies.

This is a once in a lifetime trip and AMA makes it perfect.

I hope you enjoyed this recounting of Vietnam.
